Our commitment

Divergent North is for neurodivergent people first. We aim to make our website, courses, and materials usable by as many people as possible and to continuously reduce access barriers. We design with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and strive to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.

What we’re doing

  • Clear structure & navigation: meaningful page titles, logical headings (H1–H3), consistent menus, skip-to-content options where possible.

  • Readable content: plain-language summaries, TL;DR sections, short paragraphs, bullets, and descriptive links.

  • Text alternatives: alt-text for images, labels for icons and buttons.

  • Media access: closed captions on videos; transcripts for audio/video; subtitles for course content as available.

  • Keyboard use: site and controls usable without a mouse.

  • Contrast & sizing: high-contrast colours; large default font; layouts responsive to zoom and mobile.

  • Flexible learning: downloadable/printable resources, transcripts, and multiple formats for course materials.

  • Consent & privacy: accessible Cookie settings and clear privacy information.

Request an accommodation or alternate format

Need content in large print, plain-text, audio, or another format? Email hello@divergentnorth.ca with the page or file you need. We’ll acknowledge within 2 business days and aim to deliver within 5–10 business days (often sooner).

Feedback & barriers

If you run into an accessibility barrier (broken link, missing captions, contrast issue, course issues, confusing navigation), please tell us: hello@divergentnorth.ca.

Include the page URL, what you tried, and your device/browser. We’ll investigate and update you on our fix.

Known limitations (in progress)

  • Some legacy images still need improved alt-text.

  • Handouts need re-formatting for screen readers.

  • Embedded third-party content (e.g., maps, video players) may have limitations outside our control; we provide alternatives on request.

Third-party tools

We use reputable third-party services (e.g., video hosting, consent manager). We select options with accessibility features and block non-essential embeds until you consent. If a third-party element is not accessible, we will provide an alternate path or file.

Continuous improvement

Accessibility isn’t a one-time checkbox. We review this site and our materials regularly, especially when we add new content or features. Your feedback helps us prioritize fixes.

TL;DR

  • We want our website and courses to be easy to use.

  • You can read captions and transcripts, use the site with a keyboard, and access audio of pages.

  • If you need a different format (large print, plain text, audio), email hello@divergentnorth.ca.

  • If something doesn’t work for you, tell us and we will try to fix it.

  • We follow WCAG 2.1 AA and UDL principles. We are not perfect and strive to keep improving.
